The second stop of the Spring season for the 2021-22 North Carolina BASS High School and Junior Series was plagued again by very windy conditions. Lake Wylie blast-off was on a cool, clear day, but the forecast was for heavy afternoon winds in the 20-30 mph range for our 71-boat field. The young men and women took off in search of largemouth bass that live in Lake Wylie. The wind made an appearance as forecasted, and for the second tournament in a row, normal weigh-in set up was not possible.
Leading the field in the Junior Division (11 teams) were Alvin Martin and Parker Wicker from Rowan County (RoCo) Anglers with three fish weighing 5.22 pounds. With that catch, they went home with 1st place plaques, Skyline Marine/Shimano gift cards, and Academy gift cards. Finishing second were Dane Fields and Peyton Brozowski from the North Lincoln team. Their catch of two fish weighed 4.72 pounds won them Academy Gift Cards as well.
In the High School Division, we had a dominant team show up and blow away the filed again. The Rowan County team of Kaden Buchmann and Chase Wodzinski won for the second time this year. The points leaders took home the victory by weighing in an outstanding 5 fish limit weighing a hefty 18.30 pounds and anchored by the Big Fish of the day at 5.02 pounds! They took home the high school champions plaques, Water Wood Crankbaits, and Shimano gift certificates from Skyline Marine and Academy Gift cards for the big bass.
Finishing second in the 60-boat high school division, Garrett Christy and Jake Ross (RoCo Anglers) weighed in five bass weighing 11.54 pounds. They took home plaques, Water Wood Crankbaits, and a Shimano gift certificates from Skyline Marine. The weights really tightened up with only 0.27 of a pound (little over 4 ounces) separating second and fifth places!
Closely behind those two in third place, Ian Schroeder was fishing by himself and brought a limit of 11.49 pounds! The Riley’s Catch angler received the third place plaques, Academy gift cards, and Water Wood crankbaits for his solid limit.
Winning the fourth-place plaques for the second tournament in a row were Ty Lowery and Gabe Kluttz from RoCo Anglers. They weighed in a five fish limit of 11.34 pounds. They received plaques and Academy gift cards. The North Lincoln team of Gavin Rumley and Jacob Loflin secured fifth place with a five fish limit weighing 11.27 pounds.
