Lake Norman – 2/19/22

The initial stop of the Spring season for the 2021-22 North Carolina BASS High School and Junior Series was held at a windy Lake Norman. It was a cool, clear morning at blast off for the 74-boat field. The young men and women took off in search of the feisty spotted bass and heavier largemouth bass that live in Lake Norman. A steady and sometimes gusty wind made an appearance, making the normal weigh-in set up impossible. Sponsor signage and tents were taken down due to high wind gusts, but no rain interrupted a good day of fishing.

Topping the field in the Junior Division (14 teams), Chayd Freeze and Jacob Freeze from Rowan County (RoCo) Anglers with a nice five fish limit weighing 10.22 pounds. For their efforts, they went home with 1st place plaques and Academy gift cards. Finishing second were Caleb Hancock and Peyton Brozowski from the North Lincoln team. Their catch of five fish for 9.65 pounds won them Academy Gift Cards as well. Caleb and Peyton’s limit was anchored by the Big Bass of the day-a 4.86 pound largemouth!

In the High School Division, the team of Kade Sturgill and Wyatt Trexler blew away the field with their first tournament win in this series. The duo from RoCo Anglers took home the victory by weighing in an impressive 5 fish limit of 14.53 pounds! They took home the high school champions plaques, Water Wood Crankbaits, and Shimano gift certificates from Skyline Marine.
